Flash fiction coming up in April 2021

We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for April. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:

2 April 2021 – ‘First Home’ by Rhiannon Jones:

‘She might look a bit different from how she was when you last saw her,’ my mother said. ‘She lost a lot of weight when she was ill.’

‘I feel bad – ’ I began, but my mother was saying hello to my grandmother’s neighbour Bruce, who sat outside his front door in a fold-out chair, his tattoos fading to blue.

9 April 2021 – ‘Barking Mad’ by Richard Frost:

I’ve had unwelcome guests before. But the arrival of ‘The Dog’, as I decided to call the canine visitor, was, initially, quite comforting. Someone to talk to. Someone who would listen. Someone who would help me feel sorry for myself. A stray looking for a home, so I gave it one. Won’t be here long, I thought. It’ll soon go off and find someone else to be with.

16 April 2021 – ‘Splinter’ by Buffy Shutt:

Take this little—well, this big piece of sulk. I’ve been saving it for you. I sprinkled some on your vegan lasagna. It’s probably freezer-furred by now.

23 April 2021 – ‘And the Soul Felt Its Worth’ by Dave Gregory:

Everything for sale had been discarded at least once and would be again. That was Kevin’s opinion of thrift stores. He preferred shopping online at electronics outlets with lenient exchange policies but he indulged his wife, Rachel, who loved browsing the cluttered aisles. Repurposing made her happy. The proceeds supported third world elementary schools and she believed she was saving the world.

30 April 2021 – ‘Lit Up Within’ by Marie Guerrero:

In the house down the street there lived a family of three: Mom, Pop, and Lindsey. They drifted into the baby blue Victorian like a spring breeze and had stayed there since. Spreading out their things within the four walls until their things bumped the corners. From then on they planted their roots and that was it.
