We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for February. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:
4 February 2022 – ‘Ghost Town’ by Liam Hogan:
My father always told me that the art of sales was to find out what people want, and then sell them what they need. His customers may have stayed loyal, but he never could afford the car he always talked about and never did get to see the world. He died in the same modest house in which he’d been born. Truth was, he was just too damned nice to make a killing.
11 February 2022 – ‘Comedic Timing’ by Hayli McClain:
For my last birthday, Rasha sent a Congrats on Your New Home card. When she moved into a new apartment, I sent her a Sorry for the Loss of Your Pet card. The list goes on and on: a Nephew Birthday card to congratulate me on securing my first real (unpaid in a shithole local dive) stand-up gig, Administrative Professional Day and St. Patrick’s Day cards for Passover, and a Thanks for Hosting card to cheer Rasha up while she had the flu. Our friendship became predicated on absurdity.
18 February 2022 – ‘That Rooster likes ‘The Price is Right’’ by Melissa Wabnitz Pumayugra:
He kept the caged fowl in a metal building he called ‘my old chicken shed.’ Not any particular shed, but a full-blown garage. The structure featured an overhead sliding door, mirroring the kind I have on my own suburban home. But I was far from home, and this was not the time to second-guess the man’s choices.
25 February 2022 – ‘Meadow Brown’ by Hannah Storm:
She shows him a photo she took of a butterfly and he asks if she knows its name. Red Admiral she thinks, but as soon as she opens her mouth she wonders if it is a tortoise shell, or a peacock. She feels uneducated in front of him. Despite the years of university, she does not know his world.
