We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for March. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:
4 March 2022 – ‘An Expectation of Pink’ by Finnian Burnett:
Girls should wear pink, David said to Zelda when he first cajoled her into the coat and aren’t you pretty he says every time after. His eyes don’t cut back to me, his gaze doesn’t travel over my muted palette, the fabric of my navy shirt straining over our impending joy…
11 March 2022 – ‘I Am the Spider’ by PR Woods:
I am the spider that the main character of this story barely sees as she scrunches a sodden tissue in her hand and discards it, dismally, on the floor. She is at the deep end of her crying, fluid streaming from her eyes and nostrils, and the box of tissues is nearing its conclusion
18 March 2022 – ‘Dimyat Doub’ by Paul Radcliffe:
The Bedouin knew no English, the Westerner cursory Arabic. He was leaving next day, a return to the grey skies and drizzle of an English winter. A coffee pot would be a good souvenir. He indicated one. A price was agreed. As he walked away, the Arab looked upward and smiled, thanking a benevolent God. The coffee pot, and all that went with it, had left his keeping.
25 March 2022 – ‘Gutter Press’ by Katy Naylor:
What I live for is the rain. What you wouldn’t know, down there, is the sheer ecstasy of it. The pleasure of feeling sharp, cool water flow through you, cleansing you from the inside out. The thrill of the staccato patter of raindrops that makes you shudder with joy. Most of the time we are silent, but when the raindrops come, we are free to talk.
