We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for November. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:
6 November 2020 – ‘Deadstock’ by Jen McConnell:
Even with air conditioning, the warehouse was never cool. In the afternoon, the sun came through the large windows on the west side, heating the rows of workers until they were tender and limp at the end of the day.
13 November 2020 – ‘My Favorite’ by Katlina Sommerberg:
Consumerism and capitalism intersect when my mom cooks mac and cheese out of the box. Stress lines around her mouth announce her anger louder than an infomercial. She mixes the goopy mess like she’s blending her manager’s nose in for me to eat, like the wife who fed her murder weapon to the cops in my favorite short story from English class.
20 November 2020 – ‘Passionfruit’ by Paul Ruta:
The door to Raine’s Market in Eureka, Nevada, is locked at eleven o’clock in the morning. I peer into an unlit interior and tap on the glass. A woman in an apron comes from the back of the store.
27 November 2020 – ‘Type in Everything You Can Remember’ by Mandira Pattnaik:
I once read a book with no cover. I told our school librarian. He listened attentively, although I’d had a vague idea such a request would be brushed aside summarily. Turoch adjusted his thin gold-frame glasses, rubbed his scruffy chin.
